Yambio Youth Form Men’s Alliance to Champion Women’s Rights After EVE Training

What began as a two-day training in Yambio County, Western Equatoria State (WES), has sparked a movement for gender equality. From August 19–20, 2025, the EVE Organization for Women Development under the Leaders of Peace Project convened 20 young men from youth groups and civil society organizations to explore male engagement, gender equality, and inclusive peacebuilding under UNSCR 1325.

The training not only raised awareness but also ignited collective action. participants came together to form the Men’s Alliance for Women and the Needy, a youth-led platform committed to advancing gender equality and amplifying women’s voices by challenging harmful social norms.

Elected as the first chairperson, Karim Justin described the alliance as more than a training outcome but the start of a lasting movement.

We thank the facilitators for delivering a message that will change our society. We have learned about the challenges women face, and we are committed to being ambassadors in our organizations and communities. This time, we will not let you down.”

Justin further revealed that the group is already underway in the process of legalizing its status as an organization, signaling their determination to sustain the work beyond the training.

According to Mr. Peter Lemmy, EVE’s Program Manager, gender equality cannot be achieved without men being fully involved.

“Gender equality cannot be achieved without men,” Peter said. “Men are often the perpetrators of harmful practices, which makes it vital that they become allies in promoting women’s rights. This alliance is a strong step toward that partnership.”

Echoing the same, Bob Jimmy, EVE’s Program Officer, stressed the importance of male engagement in dismantling barriers for women.

“Engaging men is critical in combating harmful traditional norms against women. By standing with women, men can help create a society where equality is real, not just promised.”

For EVE, the birth of this alliance represents a milestone in engaging men and boys as allies in gender equality. By taking ownership, these young men are ensuring that the responsibility to build inclusive peace is shared not shouldered by women alone.

As the Men’s Alliance for Women and the Needy moves toward official recognition, it stands as proof that with the right knowledge and support, youth can transform awareness into action, and action into lasting change.
