In a proactive effort to curb gender-based violence (GBV) at the grassroots level, EVE Organization for Women Development, in collaboration with UNICEF, conducted a targeted community outreach in Biokoriwa and Lui Payams of Mundri County, Western Equatoria State on the 9th and 10th of October 2025.

The outreach aimed to raise awareness among community members particularly young people on the various forms of GBV, its impact on individuals and communities, and practical strategies for prevention at both the household and community levels.

throughout the event , EVE facilitated interactive awareness sessions with youth groups in Biokoriwa Boma, using participatory approaches that encouraged open dialogue and critical reflection.

The discussions focused on the types of GBV including physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse and highlighted the underlying social norms and behaviors that often enable violence.

A key highlight of the sessions was the positive feedback from the youth. Many expressed and shared how the program had transformed their understanding of GBV and helped them identify harmful behaviors and challenged them to become agents of change within their homes and communities

“The EVE program has really opened our minds,” said one participant. “We now understand what GBV is, how our actions can contribute to it, and what we can do to prevent it.”

Through this outreach, EVE reinforced the message that preventing GBV is not the responsibility of women alone, it requires the collective effort of all community members, especially young people, to foster a culture of respect, equality, and accountability.

This initiative is part of EVE’s broader commitment to empowering communities to address GBV through awareness, advocacy, and local engagement. With continued support from UNICEF, EVE is expanding its impact across Western Equatoria State, equipping youth and communities with the tools they need to build safer, healthier, and more inclusive environments for all.

As this vital work continues, EVE Organization remains steadfast in its mission to amplify the voices of women and youth, and to champion a future where everyone regardless of gender can live free from violence and fear.
