EVE Organization for Women Development, with the support of the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), conducted a two-day training workshop in Yei County as a follow-up to earlier engagements aimed at advancing the localization of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.

The training focused on promoting the integration of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) commitments into local development plans, ensuring that peacebuilding and governance processes at the community level are inclusive, gender-responsive, and aligned with United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325.

A total of 39 participants attended the workshop, including chiefs, local authorities, women’s groups, civil society representatives, organized forces, youth leaders, and community-based organizations (CBOs). This diverse participation created a platform for inclusive dialogue and collective reflection on the roles different stakeholders play in advancing peace and security.

The workshop strengthened participants’ understanding of UNSCR 1325 and the broader WPS framework, highlighting the importance of women’s meaningful participation in decision-making, conflict prevention, and post-conflict recovery.

Through interactive sessions, participants engaged in collaborative analysis of local peace and security challenges and explored practical ways to integrate WPS principles into local planning and development processes.

According to Minagano Kape peacebuilding expert “Localizing the Women, Peace and Security agenda is essential for sustainable peace. When communities understand and integrate UNSCR 1325 into local development planning, peacebuilding becomes more inclusive, effective, and rooted in real community needs.”

This write-shop marked a pivotal step in localizing the WPS agenda in Yei County. It encouraged coordination among community actors, fostered shared ownership of the WPS commitments, and laid a strong foundation for inclusive and community-driven action planning.

EVE is working with local stakeholders to translate global WPS commitments into tangible actions that promote sustainable peace, gender equality, and community resilience in South Sudan
