Women and girls at Kundi IDP Site pose with dignity kits distributed by EVE Organization for Women Development
Women and girls in South Sudan continue to bear the brunt of conflict and displacement, facing heightened risks of gender-based violence, including sexual assault, physical abuse, and exploitation. At the same time, limited access to basic necessities especially dignity items such as sanitary materials continues to undermine their health, safety, and ability to participate fully in community life.
At Kundi IDP Site, Mundri East, the experiences of displaced women highlight both the severity of these challenges and the transformative impact of targeted humanitarian support. Having fled violence, many women describe the daily struggle of managing their hygiene in conditions of extreme scarcity. For many, the lack of sanitary pads forces them into isolation during their menstrual cycle, restricting their movement and preventing them from carrying out normal daily activities.
In response to this critical need, EVE Organization for Women Development distributed 200 packages of essential dignity kits. Each kit included sanitary pads and other basic hygiene items. The intervention aims not only to meet immediate needs but also to restore dignity, confidence, and a sense of self-worth among affected women and girls.

This initiative is part of a broader project implemented by EVE Organization for Women Development with funding from the South Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SSHF). The project provides critical protection services to conflict-affected populations in Greater Mundri, addressing urgent needs while promoting safety, dignity, and resilience among vulnerable groups.
Even at this early stage, the impact is clear. Women report improved hygiene, increased confidence, and greater freedom to move and participate in community life without fear or embarrassment.
Among the beneficiary Loice Grace, a mother of five, shared her insights:
“Today, I give thanks to EVE Organization for bringing these essential dignity kits to us women here in Kundi. Sometimes you want to go to church, but you have nothing to use. I am so excited because we women are often the most vulnerable. At times, even your husband cannot fully take care of you, especially when it comes to buying basic things like panties, yet you are his wife.”
“Even clothes and shoes are a challenge. My church shoes are completely worn out, and I had repaired them several times. I was so stressed, wondering where I would get the money to buy a new pair with all the responsibilities I have. But I did not know that God was watching over me. Through this support, I received a dignity kit with a wrapper cloth, panties, open shoes, soap, sanitary pads, a mirror, a comb, toothpaste, bathing soap, a nail cutter, a torch, and body lotion. This has really restored my dignity and given me hope.”
Reflecting on her situation before receiving support, she added:
“There were days I could not leave my shelter because I had nothing to use. It made me feel ashamed and isolated. Now, I can move freely and take part in community activities again.”
Another beneficiary shared, “This support has restored my dignity. I feel confident, and I no longer fear being seen during my monthly period.”
This story underscores the importance of gender-sensitive programming in humanitarian response. Addressing the specific needs of women and girls is not only essential for their immediate well-being but also critical to fostering resilience, inclusion, and empowerment.
As the project continues, sustained funding remains essential to expand its reach and deepen its impact. With continued support, EVE Organization for Women Development will reach more women and girls across Greater Mundri ensuring they can live with dignity, safety, and renewed hope.
