Eve Organization for Women Development organized a pivotal training session in Wau, Western Barhel el Gazel aimed at empowering excluded constituencies, including women, youth, civil society groups, persons living with disabilities, and leaders of various political parties.
The three-day meeting held at Royal Castle Hotel from 12th – 14th March, 2024 under the Just Future Project and attended by 23 participants, including 9 males and 14 females, focused on sensitizing communities on electoral processes and constructive engagement with political leaders.
Despite facing setbacks with the absence of representatives from the SPLM IG and Other Political Parties, the training session proved to be a significant step towards bridging gaps in political involvement. While the anticipated panel discussion did not materialize, participants were provided with valuable insights by representatives from the two attending political parties.
During the session, representatives elaborated on their respective parties’ efforts to attract support and membership, emphasizing their special consideration for women and persons living with disabilities. They addressed questions from participants, shedding light on strategies aimed at fostering inclusivity within their party structures and campaigns.
Central to the discussions was the encouragement for excluded constituencies to actively engage in the electoral process, both indirectly as voters and campaign managers, and directly as candidates. By equipping these groups with knowledge and strategies, Eve and participating organizations seek to amplify their voices and ensure their meaningful participation in shaping the political landscape of Wau.
The involvement of civil society groups alongside key political parties underscores the collaborative approach necessary for fostering inclusive governance and democratic practices. Through such initiatives, stakeholders are working towards dismantling barriers to political participation and creating an environment where all voices are heard and valued.
In the aftermath of the training session, it is evident that strides have been made towards empowering marginalized groups in Wau. As the region gears up for the 2024 anticipated election, the insights gained from this initiative will play a crucial role in promoting a more inclusive and representative political sphere.
